ABOUT OUR CAMP

Our Camp was organized December 2002 and we have been very active in community events, memorials, and dedication ceremonys.

We meet the second Tuesday night of each month at the Monterey Senior Citizens Building in Monterey, Tn. at 7:00pm and we would be happy to have you join us. We take particular interest in the preservation and marking of Confederate soldier's graves and sites of historic significance and perhaps most importantly, we fight to preserve the honor the good name of the Confederate Soldier.

Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either direct or collateral family lines and kinship to a veteran must be documented genealogically. The minimum age for membership is 12. Proof of kinship to a Confederate soldier can take many forms. The easiest method is to contact the archives of the state from which the soldier fought and obtain a copy of the veteran's military service record. All Southern state's archives have microfilm records of the soldiers who fought from that state, and a copy of the information can be obtained for a nominal fee. In addition, the former Confederate states awarded pensions to veterans and their widows.

The SCV rejects any person or group whose actions tarnish or bring dishonor upon the Confederate soldier or his reason for fighting. This particularly applies to those groups and persons using our cherished flag as a symbol for their own dishonorable purposes.

If you have any questions you can contact any of the officers of the camp and they will be glad to answer any question you may have. We will be glad to hear from you.
